Joseph Howard Hammontree

Joseph Howard Hammontree, age 92, of Fredericksburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026.

Born on March 19, 1933, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, Joseph was the son of Joe and Nora (Skinner) Hammontree. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and later continued his military career with four years in the reserves. During his time in service, he went to Panama and attended Engineering School, where he learned map making.

After his military service, Joseph dedicated many years of hard work as a Mold Press Operator for AT&T Western Electric, retiring after a faithful career. He was also a proud member of the IBEW Union. Joseph would later work for the OP Link Handle Factory in Salem, IN. On December 21, 1955, Joseph married, Martha (Cheatham) Hammontree. Together they built a life in Fredericksburg, Indiana.

Joseph found great joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, taxidermy, and archery. More than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his family, 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nora Hammontree; four sisters, Betty Bright, Thelma Jean McDonald, Joyce Nellene Parks, Christine Bryant; four brothers, Stanley Hammontree, Raymond Hammontree, William Hammontree, and Wesley Hammontree.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Martha Hammontree; his children, Joseph (Connie) Hammontree, Jr., Kimberly Hammontree, and Daniel (Rebekah) Hammontree; his sister, Bobby Lois Whaley; and his brother, James Hammontree. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Christopher Hammontree, Haley (Christian) Copeland, Ryan Dodson, Megan (Michael) McNichols, Allie (Kolin) Burns, Connor Soultz, Caleb Hammontree, Emily Garland, Lydia Hammontree, and his great-grandchildren: Emmalynn Garland, Casen Copeland, Charlee Copeland, Cade Copeland, Nolan McNichols, Brenna McNichols, and Emery McNichols.

Cremation was chosen, and Love Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
